Student information must be protected. For students under 18 years old, no student information should be given to any person other than their parents or legal guardians. For all students, regardless of age, no student information should be given to any person other than current priesthood leaders, authorized seminary and institute employees, stake Seminaries and Institutes of Religion teachers, or seminary and institute missionaries.  Directory information, such as a student's name, address, phone number, and email address, may be shared when an instructor requests that student leaders assist in contacting other students. For example, a seminary class president may be asked by the teacher to assign fellow students to fulfill class assignments, give devotionals, plan activities, etc.

  • Pictures of students should not be published, shared, or used for any publication other than the teacher's picture class roll unless the institute student or the parents of a seminary student has given written permission. 
  • Enrollment or performance information of a student in class should never be shared with anyone that has not been authorized to have access to it. Authorized people include:
    • parents and/or legal guardians,
    • current priesthood leaders,
    • authorized seminary and institute employees,
    • stake Seminaries and Institutes of Religion teachers, and
    • seminary and institute missionaries.
  • Usernames and passwords should be kept confidential and should not be shared with anyone.  
  • Printed reports containing confidential information or directories must be destroyed before being discarded. Electronic media that contains or has contained confidential information must be deleted, erased, or made unreadable before it is discarded. 
  • Confidential information available through the Church or Seminaries and Institutes is to be used only for purpose related to seminary and institute business. Such information should never be shared with anyone beyond those that have been authorized (listed above) to have access to it and is not to be used for personal, political, commercial, or advertising purposes. 
  • Confidential information may not be given to individuals, agencies, or third parties that may be conducting research or surveys.  
  • All requests from the news media for confidential information must be directed to the local Church Public Affairs’ representative. 
  • Information on students of other faiths should not be shared with anyone beyond the immediate seminary and institute program in which they are enrolled without the individual's permission.
